Jerry Kyle was born during great depression and humble surroundings in 1935. From 1940 at his daddy’s knee he learned the basics of healthy living and a good diet. Cod liver oil for healthy bones & horse radish as a blood cleanser. Jerry’s father taught him that his health is in his own hands. Jerry joined the Marine Core in 1955 came out a wiser & humbler man in 1959. He married the love of his life in 1960 who gave him 2 wonderful children. Over 55 years married and are still happily married! :-) From 1960 on Jerry has committed himself to many colleges and educational programs. Today Jerry is on the backside of 80 with no aches, pains or handicap stickers. Jerry takes no medications and runs 5 miles without hard breathing and enjoys his unicycle.

We have allowed the “News Media Industry” to fill our personal worlds with fears, and even an unspoken dread, of this present moment.

We watch in awe and, even horror, as we are bombarded with the worlds’ worst moments as they are dredged up and thrown into our faces–day by day, hour by hour. If I stand in line at the bank, or walk through the airport I can’t avoid it. Makes me want to scream.

What Passes as News Is Meant to Be Contrived-Sensationalism

This “NEWS” is happening thousand times over in the population of 6 billion people. We can’t see each one–so a few of the most gory ones are hammered at us. How in the “HELL” can we expect our young one (Old ones like me too.) to maintain a healthy attitude when we poison their minds with this barrage of money-making content.

Young Minds Need Time and Space to Mature

Mature minds need “Reality” to meet the day, and to meet the people in their lives. We need to not be overburdened with the “Selected Horror Stories” that cause us to fear the next “nock on our door. We can’t be shielded from the problems of the world–we want to be sympathetic to other countries–as we have our own problems.

The body needs sleep time to recover, and repair itself.” I am a slow learner but i eventually catch on. Now i realize that in order to have my breakfast be a breaking of the nights fast, I need to give my digestive track a time of fast. Digesting is hard work–that is why I get sleepy after a big meal.

If you must eat in the evening hours, be gentle on your digestive system. Don’t expect to sleep well if the body is laboring under a heavy load of food.

A heavy meal will have you awake in a few hours, and will cause bad dreams. I have learned to avoid eating within three hours before bed time. One way to fight evening hungers and prepare for the long nights’ fast, is to put half a teaspoonful of honey, or blackstrap molasses into some warm water and sip gently. This can be done while winding down the evening routine.

Just a little sweetener––you don’t want to go into a sugar-high, just a half a doughnut not a whole one. The hunger pangs and the sugar will be gone in about 30 minutes and sleep will be pleasant.

Just plain old tap water is all we need. If it is good enough to bathe my wife’s cat in, it is all I need for my ancient hide (I am 82-years old.) I remember reading about a man, two thousand years ago, who washed his hands in a mud puddle.

Drink coconut water too. Do the water dance. This is my version of the water dance.

Dehydration is a recipe for facial skin problems.  Tension and skin problems. Never stress out. Love yourself and avoid tension. Your power is not in “Just looking good.”

Snack Food Needn’t be Just Silly Carbohydrates

Liver is a power-house of nutrition. Beef liver is low in Sodium and is a good source of Iron, Zinc and many other nutrients the body needs—including Copper and Selenium.

I bought a pound of liver and cut it into pieces—bite size pieces. I put some onions into my Life Time electrified skillet, and got them pretty well done. (In my awesome brilliance, I had fried some good bacon from Doyle’s market. The  bacon grease and onions make me happy.)

Now comes the liver. I pushed the onions to one side and got the liver started. Didn’t take long. Then I mixed the two together and carefully fried the liver. Didn’t take long.

Now I have finger-food for when I need a snack—this will keep in the refrigerator for a week, but will not last that long. “He, he, he.” This, for me, is a good low carbohydrates  health food.

The tongue is a muscle that needs exercised

We don’t do yodeling, and with our vast of entertainment, we don’t need to talk much. When I do talk, I say the wrong words–sometimes at the risk of getting a knuckle sandwich.

Most of our food is processed to the extent that it doesn’t need much chewing; some is even advertised as “sliders.”  One gulp and “swallow.” The primary use now-a-days is in the act of swallowing out food.

Some Tongue exercising can be fun

  • Stick it out, pull it back.
  • Lower it towards the floor.
  • Raise it toward the ceiling.
  • Don’t be bashful.
  • We each have one and it is not pretty.
  • Make a large circle–then a small circle.
  • Roll it around each tooth, one way, then the other.

The tongue, more than the opposing thumb sets us aside from the dumb brutes–the ones who are dumber than most of us.

Bight Into an Apple or chew on a Carrot

Now that is an excellent and useful exercise. After you chew it and roll it around in your mouth with that appendage (the afore said tongue), use that same tongue to swallow the well-chewed mouthfull. If that  works well, try some raw nuts.

My Tongue Likes to Work

I am practicing singing to the trees and the dog. The dog wags its tail–the trees answer back in the wind. Many years ago, I asked my Daddy “Daddy, what is that noise in the tree-tops?” He said,  “Jerry boy, that is the Bear’s talking machine  (now days called a phonograph.)

When we get thirsty our bodies Are calling for water.

We chase our tails instead of looking for results

  • Each of our hundred-trillion cells is a little battery that runs on salt and water. Without water and salt you will die. (1)
  • Just plain water–nothing else will work–not fruit juice, coffee, beer–plain old tap water is just fine. (2)
  • When we mistake hungry for “thirst-for-water,” we might consume food–or drink other fluids––but, our hundred-trillion cells will still be calling for salt and water.
  • We must have water to digest our food and throw out waste products.
  • Sweat is salt and water–we must replenish both–salt and water.
  • We need no less than two quarts of water and a half teaspoon of salt every day. (3)

Our Bodies Run On Salt and Water

Dehydration and its chemical imbalances can cause painful muscle cramps. Many people get relief from drinking various types of pickle juice and/or other concoctions that contain, among other elements–vinegar.  I suspect that these fluids contain the electrolytes that the body is asking for.

Mental and Physical Fatigue Can be Caused By Lack of Electrolytes

The brain gets first priority for water and electrolytes. The rest of the body will suffer before the brain is finally effected. Muscle fatigue and then brain fatigue. The body’s many cries for water comes to the brain last. Foggy thinking and emotional upheavals can be the result of not enough water and electrolytes.

We Do Not Need Expensive Supplements

Many of our important trace elements can be obtained from our food. Basic foods and live (uncooked) foods can fill the needs of our bodies. I like to buy food that has been grown in the good earth that is still fertile and has lots of nutrients–like Ohio soil.

My Winter Problem With Tired Calf Muscles

Don’t forget your garlic, cheese, sauerkraut and pepper for the complete, healthy and energy-packed breakfast.

I notices last winter that my calf muscles were very tight and tired. I went to a chiropractor and had a massage, but the problem persisted. I tried different ways, but nothing solved the problem. Finally in mid-August I recognized, from a book (Chia Running) that I might need more potassium in my diet.

I remembered the Marine Corps, back in the 1950s, had us take two salt tablets each day in hot weather. The light came on: lack of salt might be my problem. I added a level teaspoon on good sea-salt to each of my two bottles of well-water each day. Within a week I noticed a difference. In 10 days the problem was gone.

How Much Salt Should we Consume?

As a rough rule of thumb, we can put 1/4 teaspoon of salt per each quart of water. In hot weather you might want more. If your weight suddenly goes up, you might be consuming too much salt. (F. Batmanghelidj, You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty, P.252.)

We need potassium in such large amount’s – 4,700 to 6,400 mgs a day.

Some Good Sources of  Potassium

Foods high in Potassium are not expensive and they are common foods that should be in our diets.

  • Bananas are a good source of Potassium, but they are high in sugar and we would need to eat too many. Potassium is available in many foods: Kidney beans, Avocados, Dried fruits like, Raisons, Prunes, Figs, Fish, Dates, Spinach, Avocados-very high, Sweet potatoes, Broccoli, Yogurt, Squash–all kinds, Coconut water, Collard greens and Pomegranate .
  • Don’t forget the lowly BEAN–especially black beans, they are loaded.

Our Bodies Are Electrical Generators

  • Our nerves, with their electrical currents, are powered by our cells’ electrical signals. Each of our millions of cells is a generator powered by Salt and Water–similar to the battery in your car.
  • If we have cramps, fatigue, or are just plain tired, especially in the hot summer months, we might need to pay more attention to our intake of potassium containing foods.
  • Low potassium can cause out bodies to completely shut down … and put us at room temperature. No fun in that.

Sodium and potassium exist in a balance … but that is out of our discussion.

To make your knees strong you must use them. As we go about our daily lives and our everyday movements–we can build strong knees. Just use the knees as they were intended to be used. I learned to start small and build my knees into Knees Of Steel.

Older people act like they are afraid to bend their knees. They bend at their waist instead of bending their knees. As time marches on their knees act like they forget how to bend. This is a habit that causes the body to pay a terrible price.

Lack of Movement Causes Ligaments, Bones and Tendons Muscles to atrophy. Start with gentle, easy and slow movements. Don’t over bend–and don’t try to be a hero. Begin by relaxing your whole body. Now, sink down a few inches. Let yourself move up and down four to six inches. Do this a few times–maybe five or six times. If this feels good, give yourself a big applause–you have done the first drill. As time marches on you can go deeper.

When reaching for something under the sink, on the couch, on the floor–or just for fun–do this little drill. Be gentle and take your time. The various ligaments and such will get stronger and become more flexible as the weeks go by.
